Job Overview
Location: Vaughan, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-story house
Problem: Mouse activity identified during renovation, including droppings and nesting material in ceiling areas
Service: Mouse treatment and exterior exclusion
Visits: Three visits
Summary
Pest Control Vaughan was contacted after mouse activity was discovered inside a recently purchased home undergoing renovations. Our team completed a multi-visit mouse control program that included inspection, interior treatment, and exterior exclusion focused on wall vent access points. Follow-up visits confirmed successful control and no further interior activity.
Background / Property Context
The property was a detached two-story residential home under active renovation. Open wall cavities and disturbed building materials created conditions that made existing rodent activity more noticeable during the renovation process.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported finding mouse droppings and nesting material in ceiling spaces shortly after taking possession of the property. Concerns were raised about ongoing activity and the potential for further contamination during renovations.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial inspection, multiple potential exterior entry points were identified. Wall vents along both the brick and siding sections of the structure showed gaps consistent with mouse access. Interior signs, including droppings, supported active mouse presence at the time of inspection.
Cause Analysis
Mouse activity was attributed to accessible exterior wall vents combined with renovation-related disturbances inside the home. Openings around vent penetrations provided shelter and direct access to interior wall and ceiling voids. Renovation activity likely displaced existing mice, making the infestation more apparent.
Treatment / Removal
On the first visit, a licensed exterminator applied a mouse treatment program in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Tamper-resistant bait stations containing commercial-grade rodenticide were placed in areas of documented activity. Stations were positioned to target mice while preventing access by non-target animals and occupants.
Exclusion & Repairs
On the second visit, six exterior wall vents were professionally excluded using galvanized steel vent cages. These cages were mechanically secured to prevent future rodent entry while maintaining proper airflow. An exterior bait station was also installed as a preventative monitoring measure around the structure.
Outcome & Confirmation
By the third visit, the homeowner reported no further interior mouse activity. All previously installed vent exclusions were inspected and found to be secure and intact. No new signs of entry or activity were observed, and the mouse issue was considered resolved at the time of service completion.
Technician Notes
The work was completed by our technician Dylan, who documented extensive vent-level access points during the initial inspection. Follow-up confirmed that proper exclusion significantly reduced the risk of re-entry. No limitations were encountered during the service visits.
