Job Overview
Location: Vaughan, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-storey house
Problem: Reported mouse activity inside the home
Service: Mouse treatment and exterior exclusion
Visits: 3
Summary
Pest Control Vaughan was contacted regarding suspected mouse activity inside a detached residential property. Our team completed a multi-visit mouse control service consisting of a full exterior inspection, licensed rodenticide treatment, targeted vent exclusion, and follow-up monitoring. No further mouse activity was reported by the final visit.
Background / Property Context
The property is a detached two-storey home with mixed exterior finishes, including stone veneer and stucco. Multiple exterior wall penetrations were present, including utility lines and wall vents at both ground level and upper elevations. These features can create vulnerabilities for rodent entry if not properly screened or sealed.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported possible mouse activity inside the house. At the time of inspection, there were no active visual signs indoors, but the concern was based on previous noises and general suspicion of mice.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial inspection, our technician identified several exterior conditions that could allow mouse entry. Multiple wall vents were accessible from grade and showed gaps or inadequate screening. Exterior utility penetrations and vent terminations were also noted as potential entry points.
Photos from the inspection show:
- Wall vents without proper rodent-proof screening
- Exterior penetrations near the foundation and siding
- Upper-level vent terminations accessible to climbing rodents
No active nesting or visible mice were observed at the time of inspection.
Cause Analysis
Mice commonly enter homes through wall vents and utility penetrations when screening is damaged, missing, or improperly installed. In this case, multiple exterior vent openings created accessible entry opportunities. The structure’s height and exterior finishes did not prevent access, as mice are capable climbers and can reach upper-level vents.
Treatment / Removal
A licensed exterminator from Pest Control Vaughan performed the mouse treatment in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Tamper-resistant bait stations containing commercial-grade rodenticide were placed in strategic exterior and interior locations based on activity potential and structural layout.
The treatment was designed to interrupt mouse activity while minimizing risk to occupants and non-target species.
Exclusion & Repairs
On the second visit, one identified wall vent was professionally excluded. A galvanized steel cage was installed over the vent opening to prevent rodent entry while maintaining proper airflow. The exclusion material was secured to resist chewing and environmental exposure.
Photos document:
- Galvanized steel vent cage installation
- Proper fit over the vent termination
- Finished exclusion with no visible gaps
Outcome & Confirmation
During the third visit, all bait stations were inspected. No bait consumption was observed, indicating either an absence of mice or successful resolution following treatment and exclusion. The homeowner reported no further signs of mouse activity.
At the conclusion of service, the treated vent remained secure, and no additional entry activity was identified.
Technician Notes
The service was completed by Dylan. Exterior vent access points were the primary concern. After treatment and targeted exclusion, no continued mouse activity was detected. Monitoring confirmed a stable outcome at the final visit.
