Squirrel Attic Entry Sealed at Soffit Intersections — Vaughan

Job Overview

Location: Vaughan, Ontario
Structure: Semidetached two-storey brick house with attached garage
Problem: Nighttime attic activity consistent with squirrel presence
Service: Squirrel removal and exclusion
Visits: 3

Summary

We responded to reports of attic noise and confirmed squirrel access at soffit intersections along the roofline. Our team installed one-way doors to allow humane exit and completed targeted exclusion with galvanized steel mesh. A follow-up visit addressed a secondary access point. Final confirmation showed no further activity.

Background / Property Context

The property is a semidetached, two-storey brick home with multiple roofline transitions and soffit intersections. These areas can create small gaps over time, particularly where fascia, soffit, and shingles meet.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported ongoing nighttime noise in the attic and visible activity on the roof, raising concern about wildlife entry and potential interior damage.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial exterior inspection, our technician identified a small opening at a soffit intersection. The opening size and location were consistent with squirrel access rather than larger wildlife. Additional soffit intersections were reviewed for vulnerabilities.

Cause Analysis

Soffit intersections and roofline transitions can develop gaps due to seasonal movement and aging materials. Squirrels are adept at locating and enlarging these small openings to access warm attic spaces, especially during colder months.

Treatment / Removal

A humane, non-lethal approach was used. One-way squirrel doors were installed at confirmed entry points to allow animals to exit without re-entry. All work was completed safely at height by our trained technician.

Exclusion & Repairs

Galvanized steel mesh was installed to seal four soffit intersections during the first visit. On the second visit, a newly identified soffit opening was fitted with an additional one-way door and sealed after activity ceased. Mesh was secured flush to the roofline and soffit to prevent future access.
